When I started down the road to make a native app for Prayer Odyssey , I was excited that Xamarin had come out as open source and jumped head first into building it up. Success was good, but a little slower than I had planned, given some of the older techniques I had to “unlearn” in order to make run with the platform. After a recent discovery into NativeScript, I’m moving fast and furious in a new direction with some great results.
I’m rather impressed. It took me a total of about 5 hours, from install to launch, but I have my first login screen already up and running for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone (not pictured) thanks to Xamarin. Continue reading “Mobile Screen #1 and Xamarin Notes”
From the start, I had the plan to make sure Prayer Odyssey was a “mobile first” type application. Most people (including myself) would be using Prayer Odyssey from their phones, or tablets, given how portable they are and simple to interact with, just like a notepad is. With that in mind I built Prayer Odyssey as a responsive app, first leveraging Zurb Foundation and later using Angular Material to make this happen. While this has been working well, I’ve come to the realization that a native mobile app is needed to make the experience really function as intended.
Today another feature is rolled out for Prayer Odyssey: Profiles. While this seems pretty small on one hand, I envision a larger impact for small groups, and groups worldwide. Continue reading “Profiles and Vision”
